Our Studio

Why Classical Pilates

We teach Pilates as Joseph Pilates intended: a full-body system that strengthens, stretches, and balances your entire powerhouse – your abdominals, glutes, thighs, and, critically, your back. This method isn’t just about exercise; it’s about functionality, longevity, and whole-body vitality.

Classical Pilates is precise, intelligent, and deeply effective. We use equipment built to Joe’s original specifications to support authentic movement and measurable progress. Our studio honors the lineage of the method – not just to preserve history, but because it works.

This is Pilates with purpose. Not a trend. A method.

Why The Studio Marin

We teach Classical Pilates as it was meant to be taught, rooted in lineage, taught with precision, and delivered with care. Our instructors have each completed, on average, over 900 hours of rigorous teacher training –not weekend certifications. We’ve studied under the very best: Sarah and I were trained by Brooke Siler, protégé of Romana Kryzanowska, who was personally chosen by Joseph Pilates to carry on his work.

We don’t follow trends. We honor a method that builds real strength, balance, and longevity.

And beyond the work, there’s the community. Since opening in 2019, our clients have formed lasting relationships—with us and with each other. It’s a space where people feel supported, connected, and truly seen. You come for the Pilates, and you stay for the people.

Why Our Equipment

At The Studio Marin, we’ve outfitted our space with only Classical Pilates equipment: Gratz and Pilates Designs, built to the exact specifications of Joseph Pilates’ original designs. This isn’t just a nod to tradition; it’s an essential part of the work.

Classical equipment is intentionally different. The springs are heavier, the strap tension tighter, the dimensions more precise. Every detail—from carriage drag to footbar placement—is designed to deepen your connection to your powerhouse and activate the muscles that are often overlooked on contemporary machines.

The result? You’ll feel more supported, more challenged, and more in your body. You’ll access the small, stabilizing muscles that create true strength. You’ll feel the difference—and you’ll see it, too.
